Microsoft according to the analysts: where it stands in Gartner, Forrester, IDC and MITRE in 2026
A Leader in the first Magic Quadrant for AI agent management, 16 years in CRM, 9 in Access Management and 7 in Endpoint Protection. Which recognitions Microsoft holds, what they mean and how to read them.

When a company chooses a security, cloud or CRM platform, the same question almost always comes up: what do the analysts say? Gartner, Forrester, IDC, KuppingerCole and the MITRE evaluations are the references IT and procurement teams check most before signing. In 2026, Microsoft is a Leader in many of those evaluations. Here are the most relevant ones, with a link to each source and, at the end, the reports to download.
How to read these reports
The Gartner Magic Quadrant places each vendor on two axes: ability to execute (product, sales, support, viability) and completeness of vision (strategy, innovation, where the market is going). Leaders score high on both. The Forrester Wave and the IDC MarketScape follow similar logic with their own criteria. The MITRE ATT&CK Evaluations are different: they don't rank vendors, they emulate a real attack and publish what each product detected and blocked.
One important detail: Gartner states in every report that it does not endorse any vendor and that buyers should not pick only the highest-rated ones. A recognition speaks about the product and the vendor, not about how it is deployed in your company.
The latest: AI agent management
On October 27, 2026 Gartner published its first Magic Quadrant for AI Agent Management Platforms, and Microsoft was named a Leader. The recognition centers on Microsoft Agent 365, which gives every agent its own identity with Microsoft Entra Agent ID and governs it with Entra, Defender, Purview, Intune and the Microsoft 365 admin center. According to Microsoft, more than 50 million agents are already registered in Agent 365, with integrations for agents from Agentforce, Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, Databricks and Google, among others. Agent 365 is included in Microsoft 365 E7 or available as an add-on to E5. Read the announcement.
It is the first edition of this quadrant, so there is no track record yet. But it confirms what we see with customers: AI agents are now managed like any other identity, with permissions, auditing and policies.

What it means for your company
What matters is not each recognition on its own, but that identity, endpoint, email, SIEM, XDR, AI agents, hybrid cloud and CRM come from one vendor and share identity, data and console. Many organizations already pay for a good part of this inside Microsoft 365 E3, E5 or E7 without having it configured.
And that is the point: a Leader product that is poorly configured protects less than an average one that is well deployed. The Gartner report does not review your Conditional Access policies, your Purview labels or the permissions Copilot will use. You have to measure that in your own tenant.
That is what we do at FCTECH: with Deploy Monitor we assess the security of your Microsoft 365 and Active Directory, compare it with Microsoft's reference architectures and deploy the missing controls. If you want to know how much of what Gartner recognizes you are really using, tell us about your environment.
